Ever the sweetheart of the Smokies, Dolly Parton has been my hero for most of my conscious life. Who did not fall in love with her gumption in 9 To 5? I was smitten as a kitten. A long time band wagoner of WWDD (What Would Dolly Do), I have admired her for her talent (as singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, producer, author, and actress), philanthropy, business acumen, and all around approach to life. I even tucked some of my most favorite quotes of hers that inspire me in my planner for 2018.
Some of our most beloved isms are attributed to her. Dolly has been relevant for my entire life, and then some, and I look forward to more of her sparkle, shine, and more is more, bigger is better attitude about life! Oh, and HBD, Dolly! XOXO
Here are some bits of insight as to what would Dolly do:
I’m not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I’m not dumb – and I’m not blonde either.
If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then, you are an excellent leader.
Storms make trees take deeper roots.
The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain!
Its hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world.
When someone shows you their true colors, believe them.
They got me busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest.
Above everything else I’ve done, I’ve always said I’ve had more guts than I’ve got talent.
If you don’t like the road you’re walking, start paving another one.
Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.
I always just thought if you see somebody without a smile, give’em yours!
We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.
Smile, it increases your face value.
I make a point to appreciate all the little things in my life. I go out and smell the air after a good, hard rain. I re-read passages from my favorite books. I hold the little treasures that somebody special gave me. These small actions help remind me that there are so many great, glorious pieces of good in the world.
A bird & a fish can fall in love, but where do they make a home?
And because my diet efforts are failing about as spectacularly as my last attempt at dating…
I tried every diet in the book. I tried some that weren’t in the book. I tried eating the book. It tasted better than most of the diets.
My weaknesses have always been food and men – in that order. (Oh, Amen, Dolly… you said it for me so I don’t need to!!!)
And, in great spirit of fun and tribute, here is Vogue’s tribute video… Although, there is absolutely no chance I’d have at pulling off any of these looks in any office I’ve worked in!
And, I don’t throw cocktail parties, anymore, at least not for the present time being. I miss those. It was so much fun, to plan the invites, the menu, and prepare something beautiful and whimsical for my friends. In another time, when I settle back in to a new life design. But, wouldn’t these napkins be the most delightful conversation starter at a tea party, boozy brunch, or cozy party?
Meanwhile, Edie, ohhhh Edie… Edie still hasn’t any grace, as she demonstrated moments ago by trying to pick a fight with our neighbor’s dog. Again.
